ANCHOR 1: Up next, she exudes class, strengh, dignity, and grace. We're welcoming Family Law's Dixie Carter. We'll be right back.
{COMMERCIAL BREAK}
Segment opens with a clip from the "Metamorphosis" episode of Family Law in which Dixie's real daughter, Ginna, portrayed Randi's daughter, Mary Beth.
ANCHOR 1: Ooh, there is some hostility there. It is all in the family night for Dixie Carter on Family Law. Tonight, a very special episode; one featuring her very own daughter -- Ginna, whom you just saw in that clip. Please welcome Dixie Carter to "Women 2 Women."
DIXIE: Thank you, thank you.
ANCHOR 1: What a striking resemblance the two of you have.
DIXIE: (nodding) We look a lot alike.
ANCHOR 1: Yes, you do!
DIXIE: But she had to read for the part! (smiling) I was so scared. And so was she!
ANCHOR 1: How exciting was it to work with her?
DIXIE: Well, it was wonderful. She was very professional, stayed away from me. We're very close -- I have two daughters, Ginna and Mary Dixie, and we're really close, so this was a reach. And it was also kinda scary.
ANCHOR 2: You are so hostile. The background is sort of torcherous --
DIXIE: Well -- I guess she didn't like it that I killed her father.
ANCHOR 2: Probably not.
ANCHOR 1: That would make sense.
ANCHOR 2: So, you're trying to put together a relationship with her --
DIXIE: I'm trying to get back together with my little girl . . . after all this time. Randi King, the character on Family Law, has a lot of mystery to her. We don't know anything except she got out of jail . . . she got herself out after she learned law, and --
ANCHOR 1: That's all unfolding now . . .
DIXIE: -- and, uh, reversed a murder charge and got out on self defense. But she did kill the man; she killed her husband. So that's about all we know at the start of the season, now more is unfolding. And one of the things is that she has a grown daughter and who's gonna come on the show tonight.
ANCHOR 2: Played by your daughter.
DIXIE: Yep! I'm so excited!
ANCHOR 1: I understand both your daughters went into acting. Did you encourage that or discourage that?
DIXIE: Dis-, dis-, discouraged, uh, until finally it dawned on me that it was quite the honor, quite a compliment, for them to do what their mother did, and, uh, and so now I try to be encouraging and not give too much advice, and I don't know -- (somewhat laughing) it's a hard business.
ANCHOR 2: But what fun to work with one of them. That's got to be a big treat!
DIXIE: Oh, shoot -- yeah!! Yeah.
ANCHOR 2: Now, what about the affair of the two brunettes on the show? (anchor 2 laughs) This would be you and Christian. (Dixie is smiling and nodding) What new storyline is coming here? What's up with that?
DIXIE: I don't know. I don't know. (a press phot of Randi and Andreas comes on the screen) That story hasn't, uh, developed, uh . . . in any revolutionary way. It's just, I think that it's supposed to be kinda tantalizing to know that this (self-deprecating laugh) really ancient woman --
ANCHOR 2: NOT!
DIXIE: -- played by me has won the heart of this very, VERY handsome, young man. So, I think that's something that's gonna be, sort of toward the end of the season, there'll probably be a little bump up, that there'll be something that occurs to hook us for the 2nd season. (crossing fingers) I have my fingers crossed for the second season.
ANCHOR 1: We had him on the show twice already --
DIXIE: Is he the nicest --
ANCHOR 1: Yeah!
ANCHOR 2: Isn't he wonderful?
DIXIE: -- the nicest --
ANCHOR 1: He IS! What's the response been to the relationship on the show?
DIXIE: Well, I think everybody was surprised that no one seems to be that shocked or horrified.
ANCHOR 2: That's great.
DIXIE: And that may be one reason why the story between the two of us hasn't been developed more fully; I don't think that the writers expected it to be accepted as easily as it has been.
ANCHOR 2: Well, I think you look great together, so there. (all laugh in agreement)
DIXIE: He looks so much like my brother, Hal, looked at that age --
ANCHOR 2: Is that right?
DIXIE: -- that gives me the fantods, yeah.
ANCHOR 2: We have to throw up a picture of your darling husband, Hal Holbrook whom you met when you were acting together, and is this the luckiest woman in the world? Here's life at home (picture of Dixie and Hal) and then she goes to work and she gets to have these wonderful scenes with Christian.
DIXIE: Luckiest woman in the world!
ANCHOR 1: You are!
DIXIE: I'm telling you the truth. It's true. Life is wonderful.
ANCHOR 2: Look forward to the segment tonight, Dixie.
DIXIE: Please watch. 10 o'clock --
ANCHOR 1: We'll be rooting for Ginna.
DIXIE: 10 o'clock tonight. She's really good.
ANCHOR 1: She is.
ANCHOR 2: We're rooting for her, but I want you guys to get together. We can see this whole thing happening.
DIXIE: It'll come about.
ANCHOR 2: It's gonna come? Good. She can't be that hostile. Tonight on CBS 2 at 10 o'clock, right here. And we're so tickled to have had you.
DIXIE: I'm so pleased to be here with you. --
ANCHOR 1: And please come back!
